Introduction

In astrology, the planets in houses show where a planet’s functions are best expressed. The planets represent specific functions, such as our conscious drives (the Sun), our emotional needs (the Moon), our mentality (Mercury), our capacity to love and relate (Venus) and our ability to assert and protect our own interests (Mars). We think of those functions as our primary personal functions, so we refer to the Sun and Moon as ‘the luminaries’ and the remaining inner planets as the ‘personal planets’. They relate to you – and you alone.

The outer planets – from Jupiter to Pluto – are divided into two categories: Jupiter and Saturn are the social planets and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the ‘transpersonal’ planets. When assessed in the houses of your natal chart, they are all personal because each house represents a specific part of your life – yet each one of them places you in a social context, from learning and exploring the world in which you live (Jupiter), learning the rules and establishing boundaries (Saturn), dealing with risk, change and uncertainty (Uranus), dealing with confusion and illusion (Neptune and learning to adapt and survive (Pluto).

Each tenanted house in your birth chart is where you will experience the joys and challenges that each planet will bring to you in. particular sector of your life. To learn more about your natal chart planetary placements, open the doors to each planet below to discover how it’s expressed in its natal chart house.
