This week’s full moon in Libra is often known as the ‘Pink Moon’ because it coincides with the flowering of the beautiful plant, phlox subulata, a native flower of North America. This is the first full moon of the spring season and its various names mark the fact that life is returning to the earth after a long cold winter. So, it’s also called the fish moon (because fish also spawn under the influence of this full moon) and the egg moon (as birds are laying eggs right now) and (for those of you who live in really cold places) the ‘breaking ice moon’, as the Sun is now becoming strong enough to do exactly what the name suggests.

Libra is the sign associated with beauty and pleasure, and where I live, it’s been a beautiful sunny Spring week and, keen gardener that I am, I’ve noticed my small plot spring into life – a blessing after a long, dreary and dark winter. To me, that means ‘happy days’, but is that going to be the message brought to us by the full moon in Libra? As usual I’ll be looking at the full moon chart to unpick the full meaning of this full moon in Libra, and there’s a lot to unpick as Libra’s ruler – Venus – stations direct at the same time. In this post, I’m going to explore what this full moon means for all of us.

Full Moon in Libra: The Basics

As I mentioned above, this full moon in Libra coincides with Venus ending her retrograde motion in Pisces. Venus retrograde has been a feature of the heavens since March 2nd this year, and the retrograde period has seen relational and financial volatility, both on the world stage and for many of you at a personal level – especially those of you who have planets and point directly affected by Venus’s backward motion. For all of us, this Venus retrograde has been a time to reflect on our values. Now is the time to let go of anything that has a negative effect on self-worth and / or net-worth.

The full moon in Libra, culminating at 23˚19′ of that sign, at 00:21(UT) draws a line under that process. Pisces marks the end of the road too, so there is a great deal of symbolism pointing us towards the end of one phase of being and the beginning of another – and that’s what this full moon in Libra moves us towards. Libra is a cardinal sign, and cardinal signs get things moving. Unlike impulsive Aries or controlling Capricorn, Libra prefers to move ahead by agreement, so the object of this full moon is to make sure that you have the full support of those closest to you before moving on. That is your challenge.

Full Moon in Libra: The Aspects

The chart for the full moon in Libra shows what an active full moon this is. The Sun – Moon opposition forms a cardinal square with Mars, now direct in Cancer. And Mars is (of course) making an approaching opposition to Pluto in early Aquarius – this will (ultimately) be the final contact between Mars and Pluto and it will mark the closing stages of the long Mars retrograde period – and as I’m sure you’ve noticed – it’s been notable for stress testing the world (and many of us) to destruction. Now that opposition is ready to propel us forwards into pastures new.

That tension is not yet over, as you can see from the contact between Mars and Uranus in Taurus, and the minor trine those planets make with the stellium of planets (including Venus ) in late Pisces. Trine aspects in predictive astrology show that resistance is futile, and a minor trine is also comprised of two sextile aspects – and they show there are opportunities to be taken – if you feel inclined to do so. Things also happen fast when easy aspects are involved, With the chart containing a minor trine, watch for unexpected opportunities.

And finally, the full moon is at the apex of a ‘yod’ configuration. A yod aspect pattern is comprised of two inconjunct (150˚)aspects, joined at the base by a trine aspect to form a triangle. The full moon sits at the apex of this triangle – with the stellium of planets in Pisces (including Venus) and Uranus at the base. That configuration – and the presence of Uranus makes this full moon one that signals a need to make an adjustment to new circumstances – whatever those circumstances may be – and to do so at speed. The element of surprise is always there with both Uranus and the yod.

Full Moon in Libra: The Message

Taking the full moon chart as a whole, there are some clear indications that the full moon in Libra shows a step forwards – and a break from the past – is inevitable, rapid and surprising.. An old situation has (or is about to) come to an end – maybe unexpectedly so. That may resonate with many of you at a personal level, Whether the events linked to this full moon in Libra are personal to you, or simply a reflection of what’s happening in the outside world, this is not necessarily going to be a comfortable transition, as the aspect patterns show.

T-square aspect patterns are dynamic, but tense, and yod aspect patterns show a process of friction and adjustment. The message says, “get used to it”, whether you like it or not. I want to refer back to something I said earlier about the nature of Libra: it’s the sign of relationships. We tend to assume that means good relationships, but even a bad relationship is a relationship. Relationships under this full moon may not be easy – but at least there is the prospect of now knowing where you stand, especially in the context of a particular relationship or agreement.

Knowing where you stand may be the situation you need to get used to, and it may be a relief if matters have been uncertain during the the period when Venus was retrograde in Pisces. Life moves on, and no matter how hard we try, we can’t prevent it from doing so. At the time of the full moon in Libra, focus on what you need to bring peace of mind and harmony into your life. Libra is the sign of balance, so whatever keeps you on an even keel – do it.

One last thing: Chiron the wounded healer is a major player in this full moon; be kind to yourself (and others) keep things on the level and use this time to heal any relationship scars you may be carrying in your heart. Stop trying to rationalize and accommodate things you can’t control; the only way to move your life forwards is from a place of emotional balance. keep that in mind as you navigate the events brought to you by this full moon in Libra.
