The New Moon in Taurus occurs at my favourite time of year. May is a beautiful month – it’s as if Venus influences everything about Taurus time – and this new moon is heavy with Taurus influences. It’s a great time to touch base with the things that you value – and that includes yourself. Self-worth can be an issue for many people. Sometimes we undervalue ourselves in obvious ways, perhaps by assuming we are not as good as other people or as worthy of praise or consideration. My husband made a recent observation: whenever we visit my mother he gets annoyed, because (according to him) she is so inconsiderate towards me.

I have to say, I think he’s right about that. The new Moon in Taurus is a good time to consider how to address that relational dynamic in a more positive (and peaceful) way in future. That’s a small personal story, but it gets to the heart of what the New Moon in Taurus is about: it’s an opportunity to make a ‘course correction’ in terms of nurturing yourself and becoming, resilient, calm and secure – even if it seems like an endurance test at times! The potential for a fresh start is contained in every New Moon, but will this New Moon in Taurus be as beneficial an influence as we would like it to be?

New Moon in Taurus: The Essentials

The New Moon at 03:21(UT) on May 8th, and will be found at 18˚ Taurus. Those of you with planets and points close to that degree – especially in the fixed signs – will notice this lunation more than most. Taurus’s influence is often to slow things down. If life has been hectic, this is the New Moon that will remind you that things are more effective and long lasting if they are tackled at a slow steady pace. Taurus also reminds us that everything has a price, and that price needs to be paid in full – especially if any short-cuts have been made.

This is the time when the price is paid for greed and over-indulgence (a Taurus speciality), but it’s also the time to dig in and stand your ground – or to start to do so if you have failed to do so in the past. A new moon is a time of renewal – but this moment of renewal is going to be styled by Taurus, so let’s remind ourselves of what that entails: Taurus’s concerns are material, monetary, earthy, sensual, nurturing, loyal, steady and and grounded. Under the New Moon in Taurus, things unfold slowly and deliberately. It may seem hard to make progress, but rest assured: things will get there in the end.

So, around the time of the New Moon in Taurus – and the days following – look out for events and situations that resonate with Taurus themes. If you’re going to create something new – and Taurus is a creative sign – you may not see an instant result, but will be worth the wait. And things you may need to overcome may include overindulgence, meanness, a lack of imagination or inflexibility. Things that are ‘seeded’ now may not be be ‘fully grown’ until the Full Moon in Taurus that will occur on November 15th 2024

New Moon in Taurus: The Aspects

The chart for the New Moon in Taurus is notable for one thing in particular – the big stellium in Taurus that has been taking shape over the past few weeks. There has been a ‘bundle’ of planets working their way from Pisces to Taurus since the early part of this year, and it has been indicative of a lot of pressure working through the system – both at a personal and public level. The New Moon connects with the Jupiter – Uranus conjunction in Taurus, and Venus also applies to the stellium as it approaches the New Moon. In addition, the New Moon makes a sextile aspect to Saturn in Pisces.

The New Moon Stellium in Taurus

That is a powerful set of planets, but what does it mean? In predictive astrology, there is an old premise: if more than one indication points to a certain outcome, then that’s the outcome. I recently wrote about importance of the Jupiter – Uranus conjunction as it marks a new cycle. The New Moon is within orb of the Jupiter – Uranus conjunction – and that’s significant because the New Moon marks the moment when the shift promised by Jupiter – Uranus (and many other benchmark astrological events that have happened recently) is taking root. Seeds fall on fertile ground during a Taurus new moon – often literally so.

So, what that implies is that there is some real determination to make that Jupiter – Uranus shift into a new space a permanent one. Determination and permanence are core Taurus qualities. This is a sign that there is no turning back from the new course – and no deviation from the route. Taurus is a fixed sign – and I often think of it as the most fixed of the fixed signs because stubbornness is also part of the Taurus mix. This New Moon in Taurus is a fixed and grounded moment: it draws a clear line between ‘then and now’, or what is acceptable and what is not.

Most of all, it makes the statement, “we are where we are, so let’s get on with it”. The sense of having work to do – in whatever context that resonates with you – is indicated by this New Moon in Taurus. It may be costly (everything has a price) but, in the long term, it will be beneficial or give you pleasure. It will make a big difference to your life by bringing in something new, exciting or revolutionary. And that’s what makes the hard work worthwhile.

The New Moon Sextile Saturn

This New Moon in Taurus makes a sextile aspect to Saturn in Pisces – and that reinforces the solid, earthy, determined qualities of this lunation. Saturn is associated with limitation – or knowing your limits. It’s the ultimate reality check – but that’s not always a bad thing. The sextile aspect shows that this New Moon in Taurus is an opportunity to be realistic about what needs to be done and the amount of work involved – and it speaks of the amount of patience that will be required to get where you want to be. Fortunately, none of those are in short supply: this is an opportunity to think long-term and approach things in a disciplined way.

It’s also an opportunity to put new structures in place and that may involve going back to basics. There is a real sense that this New Moon in Taurus represents the opportunity to regain some solid, trusted, traditional ways of going about your business – whatever that business may be. I mean that in the widest sense – and it may seem strange to be discussing that when the Jupiter – Uranus conjunction conjunct this new moon signals the beginning of something new. However, if things have been messy and chaotic, a return to realism, stability and security will feel like a new and improved way of engaging with the world.

The New Moon sextile Saturn also represents an opportunity to make a judgement call on certain situations at both a personal and public level. Saturn is concerned with authority, the authorities and the law – where rules have been transgressed, this New Moon in Taurus represents an opportunity to put things on a clear and unambiguous footing. With Saturn’s presence, you could even call it Karma; some serious dues may be paid as a result of this New Moon in Taurus. And that may be a good thing if you’re on the right side.

Karmic moments exist to remind us of the consequences of our actions – and to remind us that what we do now will come back to haunt us one day. We will all be reminded of the importance of consequences at the time of the New Moon in Taurus – and we will be expected to live with them and move on.
