First – my apologies. The May 2023 horoscope is a little late this month, as I am/have been ill with Covid. I’m tempted to blame the recent Mercury Retrograde, and initially I also blamed my husband. His ‘man flu’ turned out to be something neither of us expected – and by then it was too late as I had contracted it too. So, my usual routine has been abandoned and I’ve had to focus on my essential bodily needs. Actually, that does sound suspiciously like Mercury retrograde in Taurus to me…
As I’m badly in need of looking forward to something, what does May have in store? Well, the headline act is the lunar eclipse in Scorpio on Friday May 5th. It falls the day before the coronation of His Majesty Charles III (and I’m tempted to do a coronation chart out of curiosity alone. You’ll be the first to know if curiosity gets the better of me…) In addition, Mercury moves forwards, Mars moves into Leo – and Jupiter moves into Taurus, where it will remain until May 26th 2024. That’s a lengthy stay – and there will be a post on that in due course.
Meanwhile, this is a month appears, at first sight, to move things to a different venue in a significant way. It really is a month of two distinct halves, as everything changes mid-way through and sets up a new pattern that will impact us all for some time to come. As usual, you can read May’s horoscopes for your sun sign or rising sign – or both – so brace yourself for what is likely to be a game-changer of a month…
May 2023 Horoscope: Aries
I’ll start with the action in the first half – and it goes like this: You’re feeling good about life – almost as if anything is possible. May opens with you in expansive mood, though from the outset, it may be apparent that something is brewing. You may not be able to put your finger on it, but you sense that something in your world is about to shift in a big way – and it’s making you feel edgy to say the least. Your intuition about something may be proved correct, as the lunar eclipse proves to be a game changer for you or for someone you are close to. If you need to consign something to the past, do it now.
As we enter the second half, this is what happens: your thinking around a certain situation solidifies – and that’s just as well because the focus moves into the realm of resources, values and the material world. If you need to reappraise everything from the state of your bank account to your self-esteem, the momentum for doing so is with you this month. You may do some impulse spending – or be annoyed that you have a large bill to pay. You will feel driven to ensure that, in future, things are going to be done on your terms. If cash isn’t for making you feel good, then what’s the point?
May 2023 Horoscope: Taurus
The first half of the month may feel like a waiting game. Sometimes there is nothing worse than knowing that there is little you can do about a certain situation. The focus in the first two weeks is likely to be on your partner rather than you, and you may feel like an observer rather than a participant in whatever is going on. If your partner wishes to start something new, you may be required to be supportive and encouraging behind the scenes. You may be responsible for encouraging your partner on that road in the first place. Whatever the scenario, there is something ‘new’ about to occur in your relationship world.
As the second half of May unfolds, the emphasis is truly on your sign; you no longer feel like a bystander, but the person in charge of directing the show. Your head is back in the right place, your outlook is optimistic and there is a sense that big new opportunities may be heading your way. This is because whatever happened earlier this month may have been a watershed moment; now things are on another level and you’re in a place where you can look at things afresh. It really is a great time for taking the initiative – especially if you want to make your life more secure – emotionally and otherwise.
May 2023 Horoscope: Gemini
Duality is your natural state, so the prospect of a month split down the middle shouldn’t phase you at all. The lunar eclipse early in the month marks a pivotal moment for you – and it concerns that thing called competence. I’m not suggesting that your work standards are going to be called into question (though you may ask yourself a few questions…) It’s more likely that you need to refocus your efforts, or reorganise your time, in order to become more productive. If the outside world is too distracting, a glance at your bank account should remind you where your efforts need to be made.
However, this month the world turns quickly; you can move from beating yourself up over the state of your finances, to getting your head around what you need to do about it, in the blink of an eye. This is a time when you need to accept and come to terms with a few things – and do so with good grace. There will be parts of your life that have run their course, so give yourself space to let go and rediscover some of the things that you seem to have forgotten about along the way. It may be time for those hidden talents to be taken out of cold storage – and high time those old excuses were junked.

A lunar eclipse is a big deal for you, as you are so in tune with the Moon. As the month begins, however, the old image of ‘shy Cancer’ doesn’t seem to ring true. Mars in your sign has been making you a force to be reckoned with – and some of you may even have spent some time in the public eye. The world sees you as someone who is ‘lucky’ and you may ride that luck well in the first part of May. That lunar eclipse? It’s likely to signal a shift in your confidence – hopefully in the right direction – as you are likely to be the person at the top of their game and recognised for it too.
So far, so good; the trick, when the universe is signalling a change, is to try and make sure you follow the right path. During the second half of the month, you may canvass opinion about your future direction. Mentally or intellectually, you will be receptive to taking yourself to a new or wider audience. That’s a message you may also hear from friends and acquaintances, who may encourage you to set your sights high. However big your ideas, you need to keep them real. Focus on consolidation and work hard – the recognition you receive will show you the way to go.
May 2023 Horoscope: Leo
It’s a two act play for Leo this month; the lunar eclipse triggers a need to re-vamp things on the domestic front. You may be feeling frustrated that your home life – or things at home – are not quite as you would like them to be. Whatever the cause of your irritation, you may find it hard to do something about it – and that’s because it’s symptomatic of a deeper malaise – a need to get yourself grounded, secure and connected in an emotional sense. What makes it worse, is that Jupiter has been making it hard for you to get back down to earth – all that changes in the middle of May.
Suddenly, you’ll discover where your priorities are – and that may enable you not only to see the bigger picture, but to ensure that it’s something that’s realistic and achievable too. The second half of May is also going to be the time when it’s good for you to show initiative; Mars enters your sign and there’s a lot of energy available for you to take the lead – and that’s especially so in your career. It may be a month of tangible opportunities – and a time when you feel as if your efforts are being rewarded. Don’t waste the opportunity to grab a seat at the table.
May 2023 Horoscope: Virgo
Everyone has a ‘lightbulb moment’, and yours happens with this month’s lunar eclipse. As one of the zodiac’s cerebral signs, bright ideas are are something you’re fairly used to, but this time it’s a moment of real awakening, as you see the moment approaching where a major decision has to be made. This may happen for any number of reasons, but key to it is being honest about whether life is matching up to your expectations; you put a lot of effort into the team’s performance in the first half of the month, but you may also feel as if you deserve more credit than you’ve received so far.
Hold onto those thoughts, as things change at half time. Your ruler, Mercury, re-starts direct motion and suddenly the big picture is in view. You can make progress by expanding your horizons and, this month, that may have a literal meaning. Travel – perhaps in connection with work – is well starred and you may also have the opportunity to make productive contacts with people or organisations based overseas. At the very least, the second half of may will enable you to put a few things into perspective. You may feel frustrated by a few things, but but you need to understand how you got here in order to work out where to go next.

This may be prompted by a desire to take a risk or strike out on your own. You may even have the opportunity to go into partnership with someone; there’s a lot of change to think about – and this is the time to think hard.
Fortunately, Libra is a balanced sign and the second half of the month sees you able to make more progress than seemed possible only a short time ago. You’re in a more decisive and realistic frame of mind and your energies would be well deployed by networking to further your cause. Waking up to the fact that you’re at one of life’s turning points may spur you into action, and that’s because you’ve seen the direction of travel and you want to be the one at the steering wheel. Stand by for a change mid-month as you rediscover your sense of fun. Sometimes the only way you can move forwards is to ignore the naysayers and do exactly what you want to do. It’s time for you to take control of the rest of your life – and move it in the direction that you want to go. I’m not suggesting that sudden fame beckons; it’s more likely that you will feel that you’ve achieved something, reached the top, or simply done your job. And you may have work to do – your energy may be best spent sorting things out – and that’s a responsibility in itself.
How that carries over into the second half of the month depends on you. The focus shifts to family matters in a big way and there may be a familial sense of things moving on – or a notable new beginning. Domestic debates and discussions may occupy your time, or there may be a family gathering that takes place – and you are the one who brings people together. You may feel restless, so talks about relocation may feature at this time. Your partner will have strong opinions on that, so it may be better to let them take the lead. It’s a time of change – and you need to be careful with it.

As May begins, you may yearn to be elsewhere. That’s not unusual for Pisces, but the lunar eclipse is going to make you long to throw caution – and everything else – to the wind. That long haul holiday may become too tempting this month – and the signs are that your expenditure is going to expand far more than usual. You want some fun and you want it now – and that may lead you to take some risks that you wouldn’t normally take. Spending beyond your means is a possibility – as is a large bill that you maybe didn’t expect to receive. Hopefully, you’ll be able to take things in your stride…
By the second half of the month you’ll have a lot to think about – and a lot to say, especially if those bills were the result of the fine print being overlooked, or someone being economical with the truth. You are going to have to pay attention to the detail I’m afraid, and your energy may be diverted towards reorganising your affairs, so that any mistakes can be avoided in the future. A harsh lesson of some kind may feature this month, but if it helps you to appreciate the big picture – and the value of understanding what you are getting into – then it will be worth it in the end.
