A solar eclipse in Aries signals a fresh start in a big way. Both the solar eclipse and its sign represent a new beginning. The Aries month starts on the first day of Spring – the vernal equinox – so the solar eclipse is on point where its messaging is concerned: it seeds a new train of events, or a journey that takes us in a new direction. What that direction may be is often indicated by the impact of the solar eclipse on your birth chart.
That became personal just today. My husband will (finally) retire around the time of the solar eclipse in Aries. When we spoke about the ‘new beginning’ in his life, he described it as ‘freedom’. The eclipse falls in his natal ninth house, literally the house of freedom, so his comment was no surprise to me. The eclipse is also inconjunct (150˚ aspect) to his natal Sun; the inconjunct shows where we need to adjust. I think it’s fair to say that the solar eclipse will bring a major adjustment to his life – and his new identity (Sun) as a retiree.
Solar Eclipse in Aries 2025: The Essentials
The solar eclipse is a partial eclipse that takes place at 10:48 (UT) on March 29th, will be found at 8˚ 53″ Aries. It’s a north node eclipse, with the north node found at 26˚52′ Pisces, conjunct Venus, Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, and Mercury at 0˚29′ Aries. Moving from Pisces to Aries is a transitional moment. Something is ending and something new is born. A solar eclipse in Aries marks the moment of birth in both a symbolic and literal sense.
Let’s remind ourselves about the qualities of this eclipse sign. Aries is fast, impulsive, aggressive, reckless, ill-considered and argumentative. It’s up for a fight, but there is a world of difference between attack and defense. Aries is also the brave and bold sign. It’s direct, unapologetic and shows initiative. It gets things started, is enterprising and independent. Like any zodiac sign, it has both positive and negative potentials. Those factors will determine how events unfold, both personally and in a global sense. As will the solar eclipse’s own chart below.

Solar Eclipse in Aries 2025: The Aspects
At first glance, the chart shows a cluster of planets, extending from the Midheaven to Chiron at 22˚ Aries. But things are not quite as they seem. Sometimes the universe throws up something unusual, and this time it’s an unaspected solar eclipse . There are astrologers who will stretch orbs to breaking point and claim that this solar eclipse in Aries is ‘widely’ conjunct Mercury and the bunch of planets in Pisces. But I’m prepared to disagree with that stance,
I’m going to stick to my guns: I think the eclipse is a touch too far from that wide conjunction with Mercury and the extremely wide sextile with Pluto for them to influence its outcome in a direct way. Let me explain. The Sun and Moon are (of course) conjunct each other, but the solar eclipse (as an entity in itself) is on its own. So, how do you interpret that? Unaspected planets are powerful, as their energy is unmediated by contact with other planets, so the sign ruler provides an outlet.
Let’s apply those principles to this solar eclipse: it’s a ‘big bang’, a ‘destiny changing moment’ and there’s nothing that’s going to change or lessen its impact. The eclipse dispositor is Mars the ruler of Aries, so that’s a big energy to work with, and Aries is fast and direct, so don’t be surprised if events unroll at speed. It’s extremely powerful trigger for whatever happens next.
The solar eclipse in Aries may be unaspected, but it’s not disconnected from the rest of the chart – and the reason for that is the lunar node. Every eclipse occurs close to a lunar node, and the lunar node and its aspects tell us a great deal about what is being triggered by the eclipse. This solar eclipse is a north node eclipse. At the moment, I’m working on a book about eclipse astrology and this is what I have to say about north node eclipses:
“The north node represents the unknown, the challenges that you will face in this lifetime and the lessons you need to learn from facing up to those challenges. You learn from your mistakes, you may feel vulnerable, at risk, in danger, as the a new path is an unknown place. You cannot know what you are capable of being – or who you are meant to be – unless you face up to new challenges and put yourself into that unknown space – regardless of the outcome. That unknown space is your future, and that is where your destiny lies.”

Solar Eclipse in Aries 2025: The Story
So, how does this unaspected solar eclipse tell its story? The answer lies with the north node, which is conjunct Mercury retrograde, Venus retrograde, Saturn and Neptune. The ‘risks, challenges, dangers and vulnerabilities’ seeded by the eclipse will resonate with the qualities of those planets. So, there may be issues with limitation or solidity, (Saturn) and deception, evasion and lies (Neptune). There may be issues with relationships, money and the economy (Venus). There may be issues with information, trade, exchange and being two faced (Mercury). The eclipse events will contain those themes.
And that’s not all. The north node has a trine and sextile relationship with Mars and Uranus. Aspects between Mars and Uranus are volatile, high energy, high risk planets and they work at speed – a recurrent, strong motif with this solar eclipse. Events happens fast and are often random, surprising and unplanned. Accidents are common. Eclipse events may even predate the eclipse when there are influences from Mars and Uranus, as they have a habit of ‘jumping the gun’. We may have already witnessed some of the events linked to this solar eclipse.
Lets look at this week’s big news. Does ‘Signalgate’ qualify as an eclipse event? I would say that it does, as it involves government (Saturn), subterfuge (Neptune), accidental messaging (Mercury retrograde in aspect to Mars and Uranus), uneasy relationships (Venus retrograde) and risks to military personnel (north node is aspect to Mars and Uranus). Could a tariff and trade war start here? That seems possible, as the signifiers for economic warfare are also triggered by this solar eclipse.
And, yes, there has also been a massive earthquake in Asia. Earthquakes are violent (solar eclipse in Aries). They cause death and destruction because they liquefy (Neptune) the ground (Saturn). Tragedy is – sadly – often an eclipse theme. This solar eclipse may bring personal earthquakes too. They may not be quite as destructive – but that doesn’t make them easy. You may be forced to embrace a new situation – whether you want to or not. It’s a game changer.
That can be difficult, as a solar eclipse – especially in Aries – gives you little time to adjust. The brutal truth (Aries) is that you need that re-set. It’s overdue. The past is done. You can’t go back, but remember, change and challenge can bring new and better conditions. So, do not procrastinate, overthink, or make excuses at the time of this eclipse. Let the energy propel you towards your destiny. Be bold, but not reckless. As I said earlier, accidents will happen under this solar eclipse. And sometimes they can be fortunate.
