The moment has come. Assessing the astrology of Inauguration Day has significance for everyone, not just those of you reading this who are US citizens. As the saying goes, ‘when America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold’. With Donald Trump’s ascension as POTUS47, what’s the prognosis? One thing is for certain; it’s not going to be business as usual. Everyone wants to know how the USA is going to move forwards – and that includes many of you who live there. So, in this post, I’m going to look at how the stars aligned at noon on January 20th 2025.

As an astrologer, when you’re looking at an important and potentially game changing event like this, it’s usual to cast a chart for the event – in effect, a birth chart for the Trump presidency. That’s what I’ll be doing in this post, so get comfortable and grab a coffee while we both work out what the next four years are going to be like. So far – less than one day in – it promises to be fast moving. Has the few few hours set the pace? Is it sustainable? Let’s see what the future holds…

The Astrology of Inauguration Day: The Background Noise

The good thing about an event like Inauguration Day, is that you know exactly when and where it took place. Washington DC, 12:00pm, indoors in the Capitol Building (unusually) on an extremely cold day. Surrounded by past presidents and current ‘broligarchs’, Donald Trump took the oath of office and ushered in a new age, as effectively as Pluto did when it made ingress into Aquarius, two months ago on November 20th. It doesn’t take too long for the universe and world events to align.

I usually write about the background noise at the end of a post, but on this occasion, I felt it would be a useful to remind ourselves of the big astrological stories that have brought is to where we are today – because nothing (I can assure you) ever happens in isolation. Astrologically, the next four years are marked by a rare alignment of the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in a minor trine, that is always accompanied by radical change on this Earth below.

Pluto – as you know – has already changed signs, and Uranus and Neptune will be following later this year, with Uranus testing out Gemini between July and November (before making a final commitment in April 2026) and Neptune will be drifting into Aries between April and October before finally vacating Pisces in late January next year. This shift will change the outer planet emphasis from earth and water to fire and air – and that’s what we will be dealing with from this year forwards. It’s always an inflammatory mix. You have been warned.

There’s also the issue of a trigger happy Mars – Pluto opposition sparking up conflict. And the US has just experienced a Pluto return. So, this administration was born at a time of radical change and – against this background – can we expect it to be an (if not the) agent of major and radical change? And if so, how? The only way to assess that astrologically is to look at the astrology of inauguration day for the Trump Presidency (#2) and work out what the main drivers are going to be.

The Astrology of Inauguration Day: The Chart

The Astrology of Inauguration Day: A Brave New World? 1

Even an astrological novice is going to spot this one: this administration was born with the Sun conjunct Pluto (and opposite Mars) in Aquarius and close to the Midheaven in late Capricorn. It’s so obvious that I barely need to analyse it, however, that’s not how my blog posts work, and there is a lot to unpick in this Trump presidency chart. One thing to remember before we proceed, is that this is not a personal chart for POTUS47. The astrology of Inauguration day is concerned with the administration as an entity; it’s about how it’s going to take shape, function on a daily basis and appear to the rest of the world.

I’m going to approach this as I would any other natal chart, except – of course – we are talking about a Presidency and not the President himself . Of course, the two things are closely related, but you (and I) need to remember that the Presidency is a formal governmental ‘role’ and a civic function. However, it can be difficult to keep that distinction in mind as the President (whoever he is) puts such a personal stamp on the job, particularly a person with a strong personality like Donald Trump.

To a certain degree, the natal chart of the presidency is going to reflect the person who is President, and what they bring to the role. For example, had Kamala Harris won the presidential race, the basic astrology of Inauguration Day would have been identical, but my chart analysis would have had to reflect a different personality and what she would have brought to the job. So, without further ado, let’s dig into the astrology of Inauguration Day 2025.

The Astrology of Inauguration Day: The Analysis

First, a few basics: the astrology of inauguration day has produced a ‘bucket’ shaped chart. Bucket charts often contain conflict and crisis and the Moon (6H) as a handle suggests that whatever happens, the administration’s objective is to work (6H) for ‘the family’ or base (Moon). A broad definition of that would include homeland. It embodies the emotional basis of ‘America First’. There is a visceral, emotional need to improve and/or protect the ‘family’ or homeland. This administration comes from a place of emotion rather than reason or logic. This could make it reactive and/or reactionary. And stressful. And unpredictable.

The Inauguration Day Chart: The Angles

Second: in the astrology of the Inauguration Day chart, the angles reveal the ‘four corners’ of the presidency:

  • Ascendant in Taurus: The Trump administration is going to be traditionally oriented, could be set in its ways and resistant to any change of direction. That may make it inflexible in dealing with unexpected or difficult issues that arise during the term. On the plus side, it is a hard working and determined administration – if limited in outlook. This could cause the administration to have a relatively narrow focus, particularly on the economy. There may be a preoccupation with money and ownership. Greed, covetousness and acquisition are negative Taurus traits.
  • Descendant in Scorpio: Relationships are going to be transactional. Negotiations are going to be marked by trust and truth issues, ‘quid pro quo’,and power plays. There may be a significant use of secretive back channels, alliances with rich and powerful Plutonic characters – and those who represent the darker side of global relations. Those dynamics are likely to occur in relationships with the administration as well as within the administration. Expect plotting and vindictive ‘open enemies’.
  • Midheaven in Capricorn: Executive power really does mean executive power. This administration will be regarded as one built along business lines. That could make it business-like, or it could simply mirror the business style that POTUS47 is already familiar with, or the fact that Trump is a businessman first and foremost – and the oldest President to be elected. Trump’s second presidency is likely to be regarded as powerful, ambitious, conservative and authoritative. It may be more disciplined or organised than the the first Trump administration, or it may turn out to be a more conventional presidency than expected. However, it could also be mean, cynical, authoritarian and/or devoid of fresh and imaginative approaches to the challenges of government.
  • Nadir in Cancer: Homeland. America First. The Base. That is the foundation on which this administration stands. This sign is likely to make the administration defensive, concerned with defense, and cautious and secretive about showing its real intentions.
The Astrology of Inauguration Day: A Brave New World? 2

So far, there is little of surprise in the astrology of Inauguration Day. However, the devil is always in the detail – and the detail is where we go next – but before I move onto the planetary placements and aspects in the Inauguration Day chart, I want to pause at the Midheaven – Nadir Axis because it’s so powerful in this chart due to its alignment with the Sun and the Mars – Pluto opposition. The axis of experience (the vertical prime) is – in this chart – an axis of power and it’s designed to keep the contents of the bucket from spilling over.

The Inauguration Day Chart: The Planets & Aspects

There is a lot to run through, so I’m going to do this in list form – and I’m going to start at the top with the Sun and its aspects because the Sun is the focal point of the chart – and in this chart it’s got a big story to tell.

  • The Sun is in Aquarius(10H): the Sun’s sign is not unusual because the inauguration date is always January 20th, and because it’s also always at midday in Washington DC, the Sun also usually falls in the 1oth house – the position of the ruler, President and Commander in Chief. This time, the Sun is exactly conjunct Pluto (less than 1˚ orb) and that lends a significant power complex to the office of POTUS47.
  • Sun conjunction Pluto(Aquarius, 10H): This time around, the office of President (and the administration) is heavily influenced by Pluto(10H). It’s autocratic., vengeful, envious, compulsive, intolerant, manipulative and controlling – with the potential for abuse of power. The Sun in this combination with Pluto implies a monarchical or imperial view of power – an absolutist approach to governance. Pluto in this house implies this presidency has the power to reshape America; it’s intense, yet destructive, and as Pluto and the Sun are opposed by Mars, it’s also divisive and confrontational. This is an administration that may thrive on controversy, ‘shock and awe’ and ‘divide and rule’. And that dynamic may appear within the administration as well as the country at large.
  • Mars (Cancer, 3H) conjunct IC: Mars in the third house speaks of aggressive communications, but it’s close to the IC and that suggests the rallies are not going to end any time soon. This administration’s security lies in its base – and that base (IC) needs to be fed and energized (Mars conjunct IC). An aggressive yet defensive communications style is going to be a mark of this administration – both domestically (IC) and diplomatically. Mars is also opposed by Mercury (9H) and trined by Neptune. I’ll go there next…
  • Mercury (Capricorn, 9H) opposite Mars: There will be ‘hard words’ for friends and foes alike. This – at best – is a cool, business-like Mercury. It’s likely that there will be heat and noise for domestic consumption with cool diplomacy abroad (at best) or heat and noise at home with threats leading to cold diplomatic encounters and frozen foreign relations. The best outcome would be to negotiate long term solutions to long range issues, but Mars is in a stronger position than Mercury, as the placements along the vertical prime dominate. This opposition is also squared by the Moon (see above) so discussions are likely to be emotionally based and could ‘wax and wane’ accordingly.
  • Neptune (Pisces, 12H) shows that truth – and lies – are still going to be major issues, as evidenced by Neptune’s connection to the Sun-Pluto and Mars opposition.
  • Uranus Retrograde (Taurus, 1H): This placement makes the administration hard to gauge – it’s erratic, willful, goes for shock value, likes to spring surprises, shake things up and take risks. The trine connection to Mercury is original and creative; this administration may dare to do things that other governments would not, but whether that’s always a good thing is a debate for another day. Uranus is the science and technology planet; this administration will see itself as being at the forefront of those fields – one way or another. Will tech titans be part of the administration? Possibly – though Uranus is also a marker for destabilization – and that dynamic will have a broad application over the next four years.

Those are (in my opinion) the major influences contained in the astrology of Inauguration day, but there is another point to make too:What America wants may not sit well with what America needs: The inconjunct between the Moon (Libra, 6H) and Venus conjunct Saturn (Pisces, 11H), shows a need for healing and co-operation that is out of step with social division, as people become ever more isolated in their respective social media bunkers. That is perhaps the most insurmountable problem that there is.

The Astrology of Inauguration Day: A Summary

I suspect none of the above will come as a surprise to anyone, regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum. Whatever happens over the next four years, it will shock us all – nothing will be the same again – and that’s true for all of us, let alone those of you who live in the USA. So, hold onto your hat, it’s going to be a wild ride. I fear some of us may not make it to the end…

    1. Hi Dale, thanks for your comment – I started and ended with the Libra Moon – you’re right it is hugely important – but in the interests of keeping things as straightforward as I could, I didn’t want to get bogged down in any one area. As the ‘handle’ of the bucket, it’s really the driver in all of this.

      1. Thanks. My thoughts were that “the people” are seeking relationship with this new administration. However, given libra tendencies for extremes, there is the potential for huge backlash if the ‘luv’ isn’t returned, lol.
