Donald Trump: Introduction

Donald Trump needs no introduction, but you may (or may not) know that he celebrated his 78th birthday on June 14th 2024 and, astrologically speaking, that means he has a new solar return chart in play for 2024-25. Back in November 2023, I prepared a solar return chart analysis for Joe Biden and – at that time – I mentioned I would prepare one for Donald Trump in due course. That time has arrived – and you also don’t need me to tell you that a huge number of events have taken place between then and now!

I’ll repeat what I said in my earlier post: I’m not a US citizen (I live in the UK) but I feel that we all have some skin in the game where the US presidency is concerned. The US president (whoever that may be) is the most influential and powerful politician in the world. As the old saying goes, ‘When America sneezes, the world catches a cold’. So, will the US re-elect Joe Biden? Or will the next president be Donald Trump? Or will there be some curve ball thrown from left of field? Elections are not over until the last vote has been counted.

We are now closer to the US election than we were in November 2023 – November 5th is only a few months away. There is (to me) an interesting aside: here in the UK we have our big election on July 4th 2024 – US Independence Day. The US election – on November 5th 2024 – is the day we celebrate in the UK as ‘Guy Fawkes Night’, in commemoration of the attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament by Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators in 1605. I can’t help feeling there may be some role reversal going on there – is the US election going to ‘blow up the house’? Given recent history, It’s an interesting supposition to say the least…

Donald Trump: His Solar Return Chart

I’ve printed Donald Trump’s solar return chart from Astro.com and you’ll see below that there are two of them. This isn’t some anomaly, but a reflection that it’s been hard to pin down exactly where Gemini Sun Trump was at the moment of his solar return. As you will see from the chart, Donald Trump’s actual solar return occurred the day before his birthday – on June 13th. On that day we know he had meetings in Washington DC, but I’m uncertain whether or not he flew there from Mar-a-Lago on that day. As the exact time of the solar return is just after 7am, I’ve also included a chart based in West Palm Beach.

The differences in the two charts are fairly minimal, but note the following:

  • The shift from Florida to DC moves the Ascendant and house cusps forwards by several degrees
  • Jupiter moves from 12th house to 11th house
  • Saturn moves to the 9th house side of the Midheaven – though it’s still in conjunction with the MC
  • Chiron moves from the 10th house to the 11th house
  • The Sun, Mercury and Venus stellium is no longer conjunct the Ascendant in the DC chart

Apart from those differences noted above, my first impressions of Donald Trump’s solar return chart are as follows:

  • Solar Return Ascendant in Cancer in both charts
  • Dominant T-square aspect pattern involving the Sun and AC, Moon and IC and Saturn and MC
  • Almost all planets in fourth quadrant – houses 10-12
  • Square aspect from Solar stellium in 12th house to Neptune in the 10th house
  • Mars in 11th house square Pluto in 8th house (watch this one…)
  • Minor trine with Jupiter (11th or 12th), Neptune (10th) and Pluto (8th)
  • Solar stellium (12th) sextile Chiron (10th or 11th)
  • In the DC chart, the t-square falls completely in the cadent houses – 3,9 & 12
  • There are some semi-sextiles from Venus (12th) to Uranus (11th) and Mars (11th) to Jupiter (11th/12th)

These appear to be the major indicators – though I’ll refer to any remaining factors in my analysis as they arise.

Donald Trump: Solar Return Chart Analysis

I’m going to begin by looking at where the planets fall in the chart. In the list above, I mentioned that the planets were almost all in the fourth quadrant – concerned with status, the fruits of your labour and making your mark on the world. It’s about influence – especially in a collective and public context. Trump is likely to regard himself as the head of a mass ‘movement’ – and he, personally, embodies that movement – and given his history that makes a lot of sense. In the context of some of the other chart placements, that’s a powerful influence.

His chart has the solar return Ascendant in Cancer. It’s the most tribal ascending sign – and it ties in with the fourth quadrant emphasis above because a ‘movement’ is tribal: Cancer is close and familial – you’re either for us or against us – and Trump will be extremely suspicious of those outside ‘the family’. It’s also a sensitive and vulnerable sign, given to being defensive, touchy, moody, resentful and irritable. Donald Trump will be deeply subjective in his approach to life – and he will be unlikely to stray from his comfort zone this year.

The Cancer ascendant is ambitious yet reclusive – he will not want to be held up to scrutiny. It’s a placement that can make people feel sensitive, defensive and insecure – and he may appear emotional at times. Yet to many people, he may appear to be a parental figure – and deeply patriotic. Cancer is associated with the home and homeland – and presenting himself as having the interests of his homeland at heart will be the signals that are picked up by many of his supporters this solar return year.

The dominant aspect pattern in the chart is a t-square and that suggests a tense year – in the Washington DC chart, the t-square falls in the cadent houses and (traditionally) cadent houses represent decline. The word means, ‘in the process of falling’ and planets in those houses are less effective or powerful – yet cadent houses are mutable and adaptable; power may be hidden or dispersed – especially in the twelfth house.

The planets involved in the t-square (Sun, Moon, Saturn) are also close to the angles (ASC, MC, IC). This suggests this really is a critical year in his life – especially as the minor trine involving Jupiter (11th/12th), Neptune (10th) and Pluto (retrograde, 8th), suggests losing the 2020 election is still a major issue for him – and it’s one that runs deep. I’ll discuss that in due course.

Donald Trump Solar Return Chart: The T-Square Analysis

Donald Trump has the Sun in the twelfth house of his solar return chart this year. This is not always an easy placement for the Sun as it’s ‘behind the scenes’, however, in a political context, a surprising number of politicians were born with the Sun in this house – including Joe Biden and George W Bush. This, however, is a solar return chart – its effects are temporary.

During the year, Donald Trump will have mass appeal and inspire a mass movement and loyal following – and that may be his conscious aim (the Sun, 12th house). With the Sun close the the ascendant too (albeit on the twelfth house side) this is the year Trump will seek to make a big impact; he will certainly have the power to ‘sway the masses’. Incidentally, that impact may be underestimated by his opponents just as easily as it may be overestimated by his supporters. In astrology, things can go either way.

There are risks with a twelfth house solar return placement; it may inhibit Trump’s aims and ambitions because the Sun here make him his own worst enemy during the year – and that is something he needs to be aware of. It’s not only the house of self-undoing and delusion, but also it’s also filled with hidden enemies – and Trump may believe he has a lot of hidden enemies during the year. Look out for allegations of things being ‘rigged ‘or ‘fake’. The Sun is also situated in the house of confinement – and that may also be an issue. And I’m not just talking about jail; hospitals are also found in this domain.

Aspects to the Sun include:

  • The Sun is conjunct Mercury, Venus – and the Ascendant. This suggests that Trump will have a deep psychological need to communicate with and inspire his supporters. Venus shows there is a significant amount of money – and self-esteem – tied up in this: Trump may feel as if he’s sacrificing a lot in a material sense during this year – and that may be at the core of his messaging. The aspects to this solar stellium provide a further clue as to why this may be so.
  • The Sun (12th) is sextile Chiron (10th/11th) and this is one of the most revealing aspects in the solar return chart: Chiron represents a deep wound – and it’s presence in the 10th house (Washington DC chart) suggests this wound is related to the failure to win the presidential election in 2020 – though it may run deeper than that. The Palm Beach chart places Chiron in the 11th house – and this suggests that creating his own unique following is the way Trump deals with issues relating to not being ‘accepted’ – a fundamental issue for him. The movement he embodies and is identified with as leader is the key to him being able to accept his own pain.

The Sun is squared from the Moon/IC and also squares Saturn/MC in the t-square configuration. I’ll deal with the Moon first, then Saturn:

  • The Moon is in the third house, close to the IC and square the Sun – it’s at one end of the Moon- Saturn opposition that squares Donald Trump’s solar return Sun. This shows a deep need (Moon conjunct IC) to communicate (as you would expect from a Gemini Sun subject), and also that his communication style during the year is going to be highly personalised and subjective. When conjunct the IC, the Moon shows a deep need to be nurtured and made secure. Again, Trump may be using his rallies and speeches to create that comfort zone and feeling of belonging that is so essential to his feelings of security.
  • Regardless of the chart location, Saturn is conjunct the Midheaven. That tells us the following – either Trump will succeed in his ambition of becoming POTUS 47 (the most responsible position on the world) or he will be held responsible for other matters – and judged accordingly. Saturn here represents society’s judgement of you – you either become the authority or you are subject to the authorities. Saturn is about rules – so will Donald Trump make the rules this year, or be subjected to them? Whatever the result, this is – once more – an indicator that this is a critical moment for his life direction.

Finally in this section, the Sun is also square Neptune in the tenth house. It’s not part of the t-square configuration, but it’s an important aspect. It suggests confusion or being perceived as confused or deceptive by the general public, the law, or public authorities. It also suggests he is motivated (square aspect) by the dream of the Presidency – though whether that will become a reality is hard to say. Neptune’s presence also shows that Donald Trump is perceived as a spiritual leader or quasi-religious figure by those who support him. This is part of a heavy Neptune and twelfth house influence in the chart – and it doesn’t make it easy to see things clearly – for anyone.

Donald Trump Solar Return Chart: The Minor Grand Trine

There is a minor grand trine (trine connected by two sextile aspects) and this is important because it really tells us about the ongoing background noise in this solar return chart. Jupiter makes a sextile aspect to Neptune (10th) and Pluto (8th) – but Pluto is where I’m going to start, as it harbours an extraordinary amount of deep resentment and primal rage. For Trump, this is the vengeance election – and Pluto in easy aspect suggests that Pluto’s energy will find an easy release this year. But how?

  • Jupiter trine Pluto suggests that it may be possible to ‘achieve the impossible’, however, let’s dig deeper into this aspect: The desire for power and revenge we see with Pluto (8th) may be supported by Jupiter in the 12th house (or on its cusp), as Jupiter expands the subconscious drives that are fuelling the Pluto placement.
  • The easy energy flow between Jupiter and Pluto finds an easy outlet in that tenth house Neptune. Is this the aspect pattern of a messiah or god complex? Could be, as it runs deeper than anything in the solar return chart – and those ‘watery’ influences (Neptune, Pluto, 8th and 12th houses) suggest that complex and turbulent emotions are likely to build up to quite a head of steam (Neptune, 10th house).
  • Jupiter in the 12th house, however, may be the ‘cavalry arriving in the nick of time’ placement; if it’s in the 11th house side of the 12th house cusp? Jupiter here has the power to inflame public opinion in relation to 12th house matters – such as incarceration or hospitalisation – or to sway public opinion in a big way. It will also inflame the desire for vengeance in a big way…

This has the potential to be a life changing year (and that is supported elsewhere in the solar return chart). And – as ever – it could work out in several ways: Pluto in the 8th house is a harbinger of significant and drastic change – the kind of change from which there is no turning back. In the chart of a 78 year old man, it needs to be treated with caution – especially with so many 12th house influences present in the solar return chart – and the easy Jupiter – Pluto trine connecting both houses.

At some point this solar return year that huge and extreme energy will break loose – and it may do so in ways that are violent and uncontrollable. Mars in the 11th house makes a square aspect to Pluto. It forms an explosive release of the minor trine’s energy in the 11th house – the house of revolution – and it’s the kind of thing that happens when frustration (square aspect) boils over. It’s potentially highly significant in terms of where the US is now.

In Joe Biden’s solar return post, I suggested the chances of this next year being without some kind of violence or confrontation were slight; to me this aspect is a confirmation of that. It’s the aspect of war , however it may be that Donald Trump regards this political campaign as a war against the rest of the world. Whether that personal battle becomes a real revolution, only time will tell. It is, however a major risk.

Donald Trump’s Solar Return: The Key Takeaways

This solar return year, Donald Trump will not be springing any surprises on the world. He’s going to be emotional and emotive, as divisive a character as ever – and is likely to re-affirm your opinions whatever you think of him. The battle lines are drawn and a nation is divided. One thing is certain – Donald Trump is being driven by a t-square’s energy this year – and although there are many water influences in his chart, don’t forget that the solar return ascendant is in an ambitious emotionally driven cardinal sign.

This solar return year is extreme, deeply personal and emotional – and not remotely logical. And that is where the divide lies – between reason on one side and emotion on the other. it will be almost impossible to reconcile the two. One more thing – is Donald Trump estranged from Melania Trump? The t-square would suggest that as a possibility, so watch that side of things carefully over the next 12 months.

Will Donald Trump Win in 2024?

So we arrive at the ultimate question: will Donald Trump win the US presidential election on November 5th 2024? That’s the $60 million question: if you’ve read my solar return report for Joe Biden, you’ll recall that his chart was subject to some rebellions, shocks and surprises and the outcome of the election was not clear. For Donald Trump, however, the picture is one of being fuelled by revenge and – though the outcome of the presidential election is unclear (Neptune 10th, Saturn conjunct MC) one thing is certain: whatever happens, this is a critical year for Donald Trump.

Win or lose. Trump’s life will be changed forever. And what of the US in general? The extremism contained in that 8th house Pluto may have a severe impact. On a recent holiday in France I met with US tourists who were both Trump and Biden supporters. Listening to both camps, I cannot conceive of how their opposition is going to be reconciled. In a year that has seen the second Great American Solar Eclipse (in not too peaceful Aries) and with the US experiencing its Pluto return during 2024, the only thing we know for certain is that, for the US, things will never be the same again – whatever the result of the 2024 election.

  1. Trump could also have been in New York where he reportedly goes in the summer to escape the Florida heat. Or he could have been on the campaign trail.
