The full moon in Sagittarius arrives in time for midsummer; its the last full moon before the summer solstice and it’s often called the ‘Strawberry Moon’ because it occurs at peak strawberry harvesting time. We love those berries – though my strawberry parch seems a little late this year, so I’m going to have to wait for my traditional strawberries and cream feast. I’m looking forward to that – whenever it comes – because I’ve just had a month of being unwell, thanks to a virus I picked up on a recent flight. I think strawberry based comfort food is just what I need.
But how comforting will the full moon in Sagittarius be? What does it represent? If it gives me some freedom from the aches and pains I’ve been suffering from, I’ll celebrate under the moonbeams! On a more serious note, lunations like this one mark the waxing and waning of all our lives and they do so according to whatever else is happening in the heavens at the time, together with the contacts that each lunation makes to our individual natal charts. That’s why lunation charts are important: you have to listen to understand what the universe is saying.
Full Moon in Sagittarius: The Basics
So what is the Universe saying to us via the full moon in Sagittarius? Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac and it’s a mutable fire sign, and like all signs it carries a set of attributes that can be regarded as positive or negative. In the most positive sense, Sagittarius is enthusiastic, freedom loving, adventurous, tolerant, optimistic and generous. It’s also linked to intellect, intelligence, wisdom and getting things in perspective.
When there is a full moon in Sagittarius, you need to draw on all of those qualities, because that’s what the Moon symbolizes: it shows what you need, it’s what you’re drawn towards, it’s what’s going to make your life more comfortable. And when you consider the less positive side of Sagittarius, they may represent issues that you’re struggling with at the moment. Negative Sagittarius traits include waste, arrogance, recklessness, carelessness, risk taking, greed, gullibility and dictatorial tendencies. There’s not much comfort there.
The full moon in Sagittarius highlights all themes of a Sagittarius nature, whether they’re good, bad or somewhere in between. The boundaries are definitely being pushed, one way or another. And that means there are some big issues you need to be concerned with, whether that’s at a personal level or otherwise. The full moon culminates on June 11th at 07:43(UT), at 20˚39′ Sagittarius, so if the lunation degree aligns with any important placements in your birth chart, you are more likely to feel the full moon’s effects personally.
Full Moon in Sagittarius: The Chart

Full Moon in Sagittarius: The Aspects
A full moon has a Sun-Moon opposition baked in, but other aspects to the Moon are available! This time around, the full moon in Sagittarius is in a trine aspect to Mars in Leo, making this a particularly fiery full moon. And as that’s the only direct aspect it has, it’s also important to look at the condition of Mars. A trine is an easy aspect and that means the full moon in Sagittarius trine Mars is going to allow Mars’s current condition to manifest with ease.
Mars is always a fast, impulsive and volatile planet and, as Mars makes a tense square aspect to crazy Uranus, you can add stress, rule breaking and unpredictability into the mix. Mars also makes a wide sextile aspect to Jupiter – the ruler of the full moon in Sagittarius – and it also makes a trine aspect to Chiron in fiery Aries. So, there is a lot of painful, aggressive and unpredictable energy in this lunation chart. The Mars – Uranus square also ties this lunation into the longstanding outer planet minor trine that’s going to radically restructure our world over the next three years. It’s the painful and unpredictable energy of change.
Full Moon in Sagittarius: The Message
Let’s translate that into a coherent message, which I suspect is going to turn out something like this: whatever the nature of the lunation ‘event’ that culminates around June 11th, you’ll need to make a versatile response to something that comes ‘to a head’ rapidly, unexpectedly – or both. Sometimes you have to deal with stuff that’s crazy – and aggressively, madly, badly crazy at that. There will be events that seem to come out of the blue, and they may be painful, as the risk of open wounds being opened even further is high with this full moon in Sagittarius.
So, when insane, abusive stuff happens; when someone or something drives through the barriers of what’s normal or acceptable; when you struggle to understand what’s happening around you, what can you do? This full moon in Sagittarius suggests that you occupy the moral high ground – and do so fast. The trine to Mars in Leo is a courageous one and that’s going to make it easy to do what you believe to be right. However, you may need to be more flexible than usual, you’re going to have to make intelligent informed decisions, and you may have to tolerate a situation that would otherwise be intolerable.
In the face of rapidly changing and uncertain conditions, be philosophical and keep your sense of humor to hand. Don’t lower yourself or rush into situations that you could regret. When you’re challenged – even if that challenge is unexpected – keep your wits about you. You may not have all of the answers to deal with whatever is happening in your life right now, but stick with the truth. Be bold, be honest – and look to the future. One day, all of this will be a distant memory.
