The full moon in Scorpio shines its reflected light on all things Scorpio – and that can seem uncomfortable at this beautiful time of the year. One thing that has been on my mind at this time of the full moon in Scorpio, is the memory of a dear friend of mine who passed away with breast cancer a few years ago. She was a Sun Taurus and she passed shortly after her birthday. I’ll admit I found that hard to deal with – and I swear she haunted my dreams for months after her death.

In one dream in particular, I followed her onto a bus. She looked young – as she was when I first met her – and she was happy, talking and laughing with the other souls on that journey. Before the doors closed and the bus pulled away, a kind soul guided me to the exit. He said, “This is not your time”, and as I woke up with shock, I knew exactly what he meant. It was time to let her go. Her spirit was going to another place. Mine was not. There was no return journey for the travellers on that bus. That is about as Scorpio as it gets.

Full Moon in Scorpio: The Basics

So, Scorpio is a scary sign that puts us in touch with the afterlife, even if that is only (sometimes) true in a symbolic sense. Scorpio draws the line; it’s the no turning back sign. When something is over, that’s it. When a line has been crossed, you’ll know it instinctively. When things are not right, in any sense of that term, you feel it deep in your bones. It takes you to places you don’t want to go, but you know you have to go there because you can’t get out of that situation – whatever it may be. You have to grind it out, or see it through to its ultimate conclusion. That’s Scorpio.

Full moons in Scorpio often put our senses on red alert – and this one will be no different. It culminates at 22˚ 12′ Scorpio at 16:55(UT) on May 12th, and for those of you with planets and points on (or close to) that degree (or in one of the dynamic Ptolemaic aspects to it – square, opposition) it may mark the moment that something in your life is laid to rest. Now, that’s not as bad as it sounds; a full moon means culmination and that suggests something in your life will reach a conclusion, and you can move on in a way that’s beneficial to you – even if it doesn’t feel that way at the time.

So, you can let go, secure in the knowledge that things will be different this time around. They have to be, as Scorpio doesn’t do backtracking. That may sound extreme, but Scorpio leaves doubt and indecision to the more flexible signs. Extreme certainty, is one Scorpio-type manifestation possible around the time of the full moon, but so are other types of extreme behaviour or events. The light of the full moon in Scorpio will shine on extremes and in some instances, will mark the moment when we say, “no more”. Revenge and retribution are markers of Scorpio too, so look out for those types of occurrences too.

Full Moon in Scorpio: The Aspects

The chart for this full moon in Scorpio reveals the energy that flows through this lunation. This full Moon in Scorpio is opposite Uranus in Taurus, as Uranus is conjunct the Sun in that sign. Uranus is the planet of radical action, revolution, destabilization, shocks, surprises and (along with Mars) it’s also linked to speed. Uranus goes off at a tangent, has moments of genius and introduces us to new experiences and states of being.

Uranus is a major player in this lunation and, importantly, it’s close to the end of its long trek through Taurus, the sign of wealth, money, stability and the natural world. It has been turning all of those issues upside down – and it’s not finished yet. It’s also the sign of greed and as Scorpio is the sign of power, you can see how that could develop. Uranus is also part of the minor trine (with Neptune and Pluto) that’s going to bring huge changes to the world over the next four years.

The full moon in Scorpio is also inconjunct Jupiter in Gemini. That signifies a major adjustment. At a personal level, that may signify a situation that you need to get your head around in a big way. And – honestly – I think we all need to get our heads around some of the stuff that’s happening in the world right now. At a more impersonal level, this aspect means big news or announcements or information that may take some getting used to. The influences of Scorpio and Uranus suggest discomfort, whatever the news may be.

The full moon in Scorpio is also in a trine aspect to the approaching conjunction of Saturn and Neptune. This is presently an ‘out of sign’ conjunction, but it will become exact in Aries when Saturn changes signs later this month. The Saturn – Neptune conjunction in Aries is one of the big astrological events of this year, as it will mark the beginning of a new zodiac cycle for both planets. Reality and illusion will collide in ways that will affect all of us. I will be writing on that one soon!

Full Moon in Scorpio: The Message

Clearly this full moon in Scorpio is happening at a time marked by great change, revolution – and evolution. We know that because Pluto changed signs last year, and since that time, you may have noticed that world events have become more extreme than usual. Pluto (the ruler of this full moon) is in the sign of Aquarius – the radical sign of revolution and social movements. You may have noticed politics and social concerns have become extreme and polarized. It’s no coincidence that Pluto and Scorpio both symbolize frozen water, a.k.a. ice. Or should that be ICE?

The full moon’s light shines on dark and dangerous extremism, abuses of power, corruption, massive financial inequalities (billionaires are Pluto personified) and shocking displays of power and violence. There may be push back in connection with extremism (Scorpio), or social issues like migration, and financial practices that were formerly viewed as permissible – or otherwise (also Scorpio). Whether it’s a $400m ‘flying palace’ (US) or the just announced limitations migration (UK), events will represent the moment when the limit has been reached – or exceeded.

This lunation marks a departure what we used to consider normal. And that’s the challenge: what is acceptable to us as we move forwards? How far can the line be pushed? What kind of future do we want? How much destruction (Scorpio) can we take? This full moon in Scorpio may be the end of the line. The moment someone or something goes too far, is usually the moment when there is a definitive shift in the way the world works. And if you’re of you affected personally by this full moon, those dynamics will apply to you.

This full moon in Scorpio may be the moment to let go. You move on in a meaningful sense when you realise that we can take no more. You stop expecting things to be as they were. For better or worse, you endure situations you would rather avoid because you know change is coming. You accept that some things will never be the same again. And with this full Moon in Scorpio, that realization is going to come at you fast, and you need to respond to the challenge in a radically different way. It may transform your life.
