This month’s new moon in Taurus is one I’ve been waiting for. In my annual forecast (part one) that I posted last December, I noted that this new moon had ‘disaster and tragedy’ written all over it and that’s because this new moon makes a tight square aspect to Mars opposite Pluto. The Pope has died and his funeral will be the day before the new moon. However, as I read the news this morning, the first headline that caught my eye was the tragic death of Virginia Guiffre, by suicide, at her home in Australia at the age of 41.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with that name, Virginia Guiffre was a victim of the Jeffery Epstein sex-trafficking ring that supplied vulnerable teenage girls to rich and powerful men for them to abuse. She blew the whistle and her bravery led to Epstein’s arrest. The ramifications of that case rumble on like distant thunder, as many of the men accused have never faced trial – yet we know who they are. They are rich, powerful and famous. May she rest in peace.
New Moon in Taurus: The Essentials
The new moon in Taurus becomes exact at 19:30 (UT) on April 27th at 7˚ 46′ Taurus. New moons occur at the beginning of a new cycle, they represent new beginnings – and this new beginning plants the seed of stability – and I don’t know about you but I feel that things have become a little chaotic lately. If things have been getting out of control, perhaps it’s time to start standing your ground – as that is what Taurus energy does best. However, Taurus also reminds us of greed, hedonism, jealousy and the material world – those themes will also need to be addressed as the new moon events unfold.
Events in your life – and in the big, bad world – may resonate with Taurus themes of durability, consideration and solidity. Loyalty, trust and patience may be tested in the days and weeks to come – and when you look at the new moon chart you’ll understand why. This new Moon in Taurus is the apex point of a critical and stressful opposition that has been playing out in the heavens for the past few months – the lengthy Mars – Pluto opposition caused by Mars retrograde in Leo – and that’s the focus of my analysis below.
New Moon in Taurus: The Chart

New Moon in Taurus: Why April 27th’s New Moon is Important
I’m going to change my usual format – partly because I’m really short of time this month – but mostly because this new moon in Taurus has one overriding theme – and it’s linked to that Mars – Pluto opposition. If you’re wondering what my earlier reference to the late Virginia Guiffre has to do with this new moon, I’d like to remind you that new moons often bring unfortunate and tragic events like this one. They may not happen at the exact moment the Moon conjuncts with the Sun, but they often occur within a day or so of the lunation.
The sad death of a young woman who was abused by rich and powerful men when she was little more than a child has all the hallmarks of the new moon in Taurus square Mars and Pluto. The Moon in Taurus is feminine, earthy, sensual – and that makes it vulnerable to the forces of Mars and Pluto. Mars stands for male sexuality, aggression and violence. Pluto shows us the dark side of sexuality, including abuse. And – of course – Pluto symbolizes death. The sign of Taurus is also a reminder of how lust, greed and power are corrupting and degrading influences.
This new moon in Taurus reminds us of that exploitative and manipulative combination. Put Mars and Pluto together in any aspect and you have a powerful and often toxic mix. This new moon reminds us that Mars and Pluto signify powerful rich men who are prepared to exploit others for their own gain and satisfaction. If that sounds like a familiar theme playing out in the world right now, may I remind you that this Mars – Pluto opposition has been active for the past few months due to Mars’s long retrograde period in Leo.
The new moon in Taurus makes a square aspect to the Mars – Pluto opposition, just as those two difficult planets face off for the final time. The resulting t-square aspect pattern is dynamic and tense , but I believe the new moon marks the moment when the dark side of the Mars – Pluto opposition is ready to be resolved and resolution manifests through the new moon in Taurus. Taurus is aligned with the arts – and I suspect many of you will be watching )or have watched) the Netflix series, Adolescence, that has burst onto our screens right now.
That particular show has made a huge impact with its themes of trauma and violence – and it had forced us as a society to confront the kinds of difficult truths that we instinctively shy away from. That is one of the major dynamics we expect with a Mars – Pluto opposition, and the square from this new moon in Taurus may mark the start of us – as a society – beginning to tackle those concerns. Perhaps we need to look deeply at our values – and there is no better time to do so than a new moon in Taurus.
When I wrote about the Mars – Pluto opposition (link below), I listed the themes and issues that were likely to manifest during the time the opposition was active. I think it’s fair to say that those themes will come as no surprise to you, but for the record they include, lust, greed, wealth power, victims, threats and violence, themes that have dominated the bandwidth over recent months – and more. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I would welcome the beginning of the end of that. The new moon in Taurus gives us that opportunity to start over. Perhaps it’s time to build a stable, productive world – with a generous heart.
