This month’s Solar Eclipse in Leo is a major astrological event. I’m excited about this particular solar eclipse because I’ll be able to see it from where I live in the UK. That’s only happened once before (back in 1999) and although I won’t see the total eclipse (where I live falls into the ‘penumbra’ of the solar eclipse) it should be pretty spectacular – especially as the skies are forecast to be clear.
Putting my personal excitement to one side, I have to say my astrological perspective is much more focused. Every solar eclipse is a curve ball, a turning point from which there is no going back. That’s true of the news headlines as well as in our personal lives. And, for me, this one is personal, as so many of my loved ones have this solar eclipse in Leo touch sensitive parts of their natal charts in a really direct way. It presages great change…
Solar Eclipse in Leo 2026: The Essentials
Wednesday’s solar eclipse at 20˚06′ Leo is a total solar eclipse which means that the Sun, Moon and Earth are in perfect alignment and the Moon is at perigee, which means it’s big enough to cover the Sun as seen from Earth. This is also a south node eclipse; you’ll see in the eclipse chart below that the Sun-Moon conjunction is directly opposite the north node at 19˚ Aquarius i.e. conjunct the south node in Leo (even though the south node is not marked on the chart).
Solar eclipses are the most powerful of new moons. The seeds sown at this time will be momentous, both is public life and in your personal life if this solar eclipse makes direct contact with a sensitive point or important planet in your natal chart. And don’t discount its impact on a predictive chart (solar return or progressed chart); events that make the headlines or unfold in your life over the next 6-12 months will have their origins in this eclipse.
So, how will you know? Eclipses are game changers. And they change the game in accordance with the nature of the sign and aspects that accompany any particular eclipse. They also change the game in ways that align with the nature of the ‘eclipse family’: This solar eclipse in Leo is an eclipse in the Saros 126 cycle and that cycle is associated with sudden breakthroughs, clarity, insight and finding solutions to negative situations.
So, this solar eclipse in Leo, the latest in the Saros 126 family, may not be too bad after all, having the potential to lift burdens and show a clear way forward. However, that’s going to require rapid action: if the door opens, run through it. This is also a south node eclipse, so you may be reluctant to do so and that’s because south node eclipses challenge you to move out of your comfort zone – and that’s not always easy.
With the solar eclipse in Leo, are you going to be confident enough to make the changes in your life that you need to make? Will you have the courage to walk through that door? Do you have the willpower to start over and keep going on the road ahead? The Sun rules Leo, the sign of the king or ruler. It’s well placed to give you the support you need – but you need to be aware of the ‘background noise’ that accompanies this eclipse.

Look closely at the eclipse chart and you’ll notice there is only one aspect made by the solar eclipse – a fairly wide trine aspect to Saturn, retrograde in Aries. This eclipse may be dominated by the fire signs, but Saturn is a steadying influence. It cools things down. It enables a flame to burn steady rather than burn out. Saturn is a builder, but Saturn retrograde restructures; it changes the shape of things so they work better and the thing being reshaped is your life.
With a trine aspect from the solar eclipse in Leo, Saturn retrograde in Aries shows it’s time to build something new – and do so at speed. It’s a time for action, not procrastination – though the trine aspect to Saturn shows that you’re in this for the long term. What this solar eclipse will bring – even if you’re not aware of it yet – is the chance to consolidate your life. Build something on a secure footing. You will have to leave behind all of the things you thought were secure. If you you thought your life was set in stone – think again.
It’s going to involve hard work and, though it requires a quick decision, the actual process may be slow. If you have – to date – been plagued by frustration, limitation and restriction, it’s time to dismantle the structures (mental or physical) that are holding you back and create something new and worthwhile. Leo is a creative sign; use its influence to create a life that reflects who you are and what you want from this life, but make sure your objectives are realistic, as his solar eclipse may manifest outwardly as an unwelcome reality check.
Solar Eclipse in Leo: The Background Noise
The need to create something solid comes against a celestial background that is anything but that. The outer planet transiting minor trine has been restructuring the world for the past two years and will continue to do so until 2028. As you can see in the chart above, the dominant overlapping kite patterns show that we live in creative times – but that also means that times are fluid and changeable; it may be hard to get your life on track.
When things are changeable – and with Uranus in Gemini at the apex of this double kite/trapeze things are always going to be chaotic – the challenge is to work constructively with in that framework. Fortunately, this solar eclipse in Leo stands apart from the crowd, connected to the larger aspect pattern by Saturn which enjoys a trine aspect from the Mercury – Jupiter conjunction in Leo.
It seems that patience, knowledge and wisdom are the keys to unlocking this eclipse’s potential. That’s underscored by the Mercury-Jupiter opposition to Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. Close to the point of the 2020 Great Conjunction, the approaching Jupiter-Saturn trine is a timely reminder to get your head around how well your personal revolution has progressed – or otherwise. If you need to stand firm in the face of personal or global upheaval and create a new reality, now is the time to do so.
