Your drive to protect everything that matters to you makes you ambitious and shrewd because money ensures you have the comforts you need. Mercury in Cancer
With Mercury in Cancer, you communicate and process information in a Cancerian manner. Cancer is regarded as a shy sign of the Zodiac, so you may be shy or reluctant to speak up for yourself. Uranus in Cancer
Uranus was in Cancer between 1948 and 1956. The generation with this placement came into the world in the aftermath of the second world war and, though they are now seniors, they entered a world that was, in many ways, revolutionary – and that revolution centred on the home and family. The ‘nuclear family’ became the dominant and idealised form of family unit in the western world. This was a period of innovation (Uranus) in the home (Cancer). Domestic appliances (washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, TV) becoming both popular and affordable.
Uranus focuses on social change, and a change in attitudes enabled women to enter the workforce in larger numbers. Processed food became widely available. The birth control pill was invented. Innovation and freedom focused on themes we associate with Cancer. That’s also true of the previous Uranus transit in Cancer between 1866 and 1872. The American Civil War ended and a new nation was born; new nation states emerged in Europe and rights for women gained traction. Home and homeland. How will Uranus revolutionise those issues between 2032-2039? Be prepared.
Neptune in Cancer
Neptune last visited Cancer between the years 1902-1915. Neptune is diffuse and overwhelms barriers. It captures the imagination and is idealistic. In the sign of home, family, homeland, emotions and history, it certainly made its mark. This generation was born into a world where ‘idealistic sacrifice’ would become a common theme. The ability to sway the masses emotionally is Neptune in Cancer in action. Wars fought on the basis of populist emotions culminated in the mass slaughter of the First World War in 1914 – ‘the war to end all wars’. Idealism was proven to have been a Neptunian illusion.
This was also the age of polar exploration. Loss and tragedy accompanied those expeditions – and captured public imagination. When the SS Titanic sank in 1912, it also transcended personal tragedy to become immortalised in history (Cancer) and on film (Neptune).The Wright brothers proved that powered flight was possible and mankind could transcend it’s earthly origins. And the first cinema opened, heralding the age of filmed entertainment for the masses; Neptunian escapism on a grand scale. Neptune will return to Cancer in 2065.
Pluto in Cancer
Pluto last visited Cancer from 1914 to 1938. This was a time of extraordinary upheaval – and upheaval is what Pluto does best. It was a period of extremes and a period of war. In Europe, the idealism of Neptune led to Plutonic mass slaughter and loss on a cataclysmic scale. The old world was destroyed, but Pluto’s task was not yet complete. Cancer represents homeland; the rise of extreme nationalism followed the end of the First World War. Plutonic figures, like Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy, brought inevitable destruction due to their hunger for vengeance and absolute power.
At its most extreme, Pluto in Cancer evokes the kind of tribal allegiances that fight to the death. Psychologically it’s challenging because physical survival is at stake. Pluto has a significant financial impact: this period saw the ‘Great Depression’ (an appropriately Cancer term) with mass unemployment and extreme poverty. Pluto feeds on misery, and that – perhaps – is what needs to be taken from the Pluto in Cancer experience. Pluto purges the world of things that have outgrown their time, no matter how painful that process may be. Pluto returns to Cancer in 2157.
Cancer Ascendant (AC)
With Cancer on the Ascendant, you were born with a defensive shell. You take your time getting to know people and situations. You have to trust and feel comfortable before you come out of your shell. Underneath your carapace, you are a kind, caring person who may appear shy, vulnerable and lacking in confidence. However, you can be tough when you need to be – and one thing you are not is a fool. You are far too intuitive and self-protective for that. Watch out for jealousy though – you can be prone to green eye. In fact, you may have green eyes, as Cancer rules your appearance.
You often act, look and behave like a Cancerian – even if your Sun Sign has completely different characteristics. Cancer Midheaven (MC)
Your public persona may be anything from shy and retiring, to being recognised as someone who has a deeply caring or nurturing public role. Unsurprisingly, many of you with this Midheaven sign will be drawn to those careers where such qualities are on public display. Nursing, childcare or early years teaching may be appropriate outlets, and any career within the food or catering industry is also an option. Cancer is often perceived as a withdrawn sign, but its cardinal nature means that those with this Midheaven are ambitious. This may be prompted by a deep need for security.
To be regarded as secure makes this an excellent placement for those who work in long established family businesses, whether it’s a business owned by your own family – or not.
