Planets and points that fall in Virgo are expressed with Virgo’s characteristic discrimination, a trait you will no doubt recognise if you have a planet or two in this sign. If your Ascendant or Midheaven falls in Virgo, seeking perfection will be second nature to you. Planets and points in Virgo are influenced by that sign’s energy; they express the functions they represent ‘Virgo style’. The Sun in Virgo will not be experienced in the same way as – for example – the Moon, Saturn or the Midheaven (MC) in that sign, but the parts of your psyche they represent will have a Virgo flavour to them.

So, what do your natal planets and points represent? The personal planets represent parts of your character that are easily recognisable to you; the Sun signifies your inner self and the Moon your emotional side. Mercury represents your mind, Venus your desire nature and Mars your ability to assert yourself. When they express through Virgo, those areas of your life are experienced with a conscientious manner – as you would expect with this sign. Similarly, the Ascendant and Midheaven will emphasise the efficient and analytical side of your nature.

The outer planets are less personal in their representation, and Virgo energy manifests through them in two particular ways: through the ‘social planets’, Jupiter and Saturn, Virgo energy influences your personal growth and development (Jupiter) and your attitudes towards authority and responsibility (Saturn). Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the ‘generational planets’; by zodiac sign, they affect everyone born at around the same time. Some of you reading this may have been born with Pluto in Virgo.

Sun in Virgo

The Sun symbolises your inner self, so having the Sun in Virgo means that you identify with Virgo’s signature characteristics. Even if your rising sign gives you a more outgoing veneer, at heart you are orderly and play by the rules. You are naturally intelligent and often practical, being one of the zodiac’s hard workers, and you’re never happier than when you’re solving one of life’s more intractable problems. You’re analytical and – a slight criticism here – maybe a little pernickety. There isn’t much that escapes your attention. Your critical faculties are highly tuned.

If that makes you sound worthy, but dull, don’t worry, as Virgo has a wickedly dry sense of humour. You also have a talent for bringing the best out in people with your kindness and encouragement. You may be steady and as exciting as a rock, but your reliability and organisation is much appreciated by all who know you. You bring order into chaos – and that’s a real talent. The world needs people who know the right thing to do. Virgo, that person is you.

Moon in Virgo

The Moon in your natal chart represents your comfort zone, the place you go to chill out and relax. Except the Virgo Moon doesn’t really relax, as you need to feel useful and productive. For people with a Virgo Moon, relaxation is hard work; you hate to be underemployed and you regard keeping busy as being better than a holiday. When you do take holidays they need to be meticulously planned with a very full itinerary. And take some antacid and meds with you. Your comfort zone should feel safe and healthy – dirt and disorder are anathema to you. More than anyone, you find comfort in cleanliness and routine.

You have an instinctive and deep need to analyse everything around you; words, objects, situations and people. That can be a great talent, but don’t let your knack for problematising everything turn into a problem for you. You can become hypercritical if you feel emotionally threatened or misunderstood. Over-sensitivity is common with this moon sign. However, that eye for detail – which is so instinctive in you – means you notice the little things that others often miss. At best, this moon sign has the gift of emotional intelligence – so use it well.

Mercury in Virgo

With Mercury in Virgo, you are meticulous about how you present yourself at the mental level. Whether spoken or written, Virgo Mercury’s communications are economical and on point. This is unsurprising, as Mercury rules Virgo and Virgo is renowned for a refined and ordered approach to life. Virgo is a bookish, intellectual sign, so Mercury here can be the archetypal nerd. Don’t be put off by this however, as people with Mercury in Virgo are often experts, and work hard to ensure that expertise is maintained. However, beware of becoming a Virgo Mercury ‘nit-picker’, as not everyone is as great with detail as you.

Virgo is also a practical sign, so your mental approach tends to be down to earth. Virgo Mercury is analytical and a great problem solver – it doesn’t take you long to work things out – and though Virgo Mercury can be a worrier, that’s usually because you have a tendency to look for problems. In common with Gemini Mercury, you need to be mentally active and are usually just as wedded to your laptop and mobile phone. Useful information means everything to you; the more you know the better you like it. Nothing makes you happier than arranging your mental library, or an actual library – and every Mercury Virgo has one of those.

Venus in Virgo

Venus in Virgo has exacting an high standards. You love it when your life has a sense of order and is well organised. This extends to your personal appearance; you may have an air of stylish, understated elegance. You know what works for you stylistically and you’re unlikely to waste money on ‘disposable’ fashion. You’re also a perfectionist in love. You would rather be single than settle for less than the best in a partnership. However, when you fall in love, you’re likely to take a pragmatic approach to your relationship. It needs to work – and so does your lover.

Financially, Venus is Virgo is sensible – up to a point. Unfortunately, high standards may come at a price, and you are more than willing to pay whatever it takes to maintain your sense of self-worth. However, the up-side is that you are great at setting priorities. And budgeting. The old-fashioned notion of saving in order to spend still has currency with you, and you will happily forego some non-essential pleasures to spend on the things you really want. You do, however love a good deal – to the extent you may change your bank account regularly, or you may have more than one account. Virgo is a flexible sign in more ways than one.

Mars in Virgo

Mars in Virgo is the most fastidious of placements and you will be a born perfectionist. In fact, you will be assertively so, and will expect others to meet your high standards. An argument will break out – ant that argument may be with yourself. Virgo is not the most aggressive of signs; as an introverted sign it’s easy for your Mars energy to be directed inwards – Mars in Virgo may make you hyper-critical – not just of other people, but of yourself too, as you wage war against what you perceive as life’s imperfections. This often makes you irritable – a classic manifestation of Mars in this sign.

Like Cancer, Virgo is a sensitive sign, and Mars in Virgo means you can suffer from anxiety-related health issues. If (or when) that happens, it’s a sign that you’re not using Mars in Virgo in a positive manner. Use your energies carefully; Virgo is a considered sign and that enables your Mars energy to be focused in a manner that is both efficient, organised and productive. Use that Mars energy to provide a physical counterpoint to the cerebral energy for which Virgo is famous; exercise as part of a daily routine is a good use of Mars in this sign. Your aim should be to master life – nothing less will do.

Jupiter in Virgo

Saturn in Virgo

Uranus in Virgo

Uranus occupied this sign during the years 1961 – 1972. It was a time of social revolution, and social revolutions affect how society is organised. That describes Uranus in Virgo to perfection. And what does history tell us of this time? Our mothers returned to work after having children and daily lives and routines were re-structured as a result. That seems normal now – along with equal pay for women – but it was revolutionary at that time. Virgo is the sign of ‘discrimination’, and Uranus in Virgo saw challenges to the negative societal practices associated with that word such as sex discrimination and racial discrimination.

Innovation was directed towards making improvements – a Virgo theme. Mass inoculation programs against disease represented a revolution (Uranus) in public healthcare (Virgo). In the US, Medicare and Medicaid services were established to revolutionise healthcare for the most needy. The use of technology to improve daily living was also a dominant theme at this time. Robotics and mechanisation in the workplace were evidence of modernisation, as was the emphasis on ‘work-life’ balance. Uranus in Virgo also saw an increase in unemployment, social unrest and political upheaval. All revolutions have their victims.

Neptune in Virgo

Neptune last visited Virgo between 1928-1942. That’s relatively recent history, and it’s remembered as a time that was problematic in nature. This placement idealises serving something greater than yourself. It stimulates dreams of purity and perfection, but those dreams may become nightmares. Dreams of wealth disappeared when the stock markets crashed and led to the Great Depression. The dream of a perfectly ordered society led to dictators like Adolf Hitler (an artist) brainwashing the masses and ‘eliminating’ those who threatened his dream.

That era brought the Great Depression and the rise of fascism in Europe and Neptune in Virgo enabled the mind to normalise things that were morally repugnant. Neptune and Virgo represent morality and mental health; the generation born at this time may have experienced emotional issues. To dream of a secure and stable lifestyle may seem modest and unexceptional to us, but in the context of that era, it must have seemed like a fantasy. When Neptune visits Virgo, beware of mass movements promising perfection; illusion is never an improvement on reality.

Pluto in Virgo

Pluto last visited Virgo between 1956 – 1972. The long-lasting Pluto-Uranus conjunction during that period brought social revolution, technological revolution and profound changes in our social structures. A core belief was that each generation should be an improvement the one before. It’s a powerful concept. This generation’s attitude was, at best, determined to bring about positive change. At its worst, no price was too high. Pluto in Virgo can be controlling and systemic in its effects.

So, what does recent history say about this? Control of your mental and physical well-being. This is the gym generation. The diet industry flourished. The obesity crisis hit hard. Sexual health and reproductive control were major issues. Those themes – and more – informed the experiences of the Pluto in Virgo generation. During an earlier stay in this sign, between 1710 – 1725, Pluto in Virgo saw the beginnings of the economic system we know as capitalism. It’s the Pluto in Virgo system that is still in control of our lives today. Pluto has a long cycle.

Virgo Ascendant (AC)

With Virgo as your rising sign you most likely came into this world on time. As you picked off your developmental milestones, one by one, you will have impressed your elders with your facility for learning, talking and understanding and your, no doubt, excellent behaviour. So far so good, but – the downside – you may have been fastidious about what you ate and probably won the prize as the youngest vegan on the block. And I hate to say this, but ‘Geek’ is probably a word you’re way too familiar with.

So, Virgo rising, the way you view the world is Virgo in nature. Virgo-themed activities and interests come easily to you and you express the qualities of your Sun Sign in a Virgo manner – precisely, diligently and with considerable forethought. Your Virgo ascendant can make you an authority on any subject that catches your undivided attention; you research any subject that interests you to in great detail. As a Mercury influenced sign, you communicate your interests to the world at large with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation of course. You know that the devil resides in the detail.

Virgo Midheaven (MC)

Understated and competent. Your public persona is cool, reliable and hardworking – and hard work is how you make your way to the top. This is not the most overtly ambitious of Midheaven signs, but it’s important to you to be regarded as accomplished in whatever you do. Virgo is one of the intellectual or academic signs, so obtaining academic or professional qualifications may have played an important part in enabling you to follow your chosen career path. Virgo is the sign of service, and many with this Midheaven sign may have followed a vocational calling.

Virgo is also a well-organised and technically minded sign, so a practical skillset may be important to your career development. From the above description, it may seem that a Virgo Midheaven is an indicator that you can turn your hand to anything – and that may be true. Like Gemini, the other Mercury ruled sign, Virgo is versatile and one of the reasons for this is that those with a Virgo MC prefer trades and professions where they can use their analytical powers to make improvements. That can be applied to a variety of careers and working practices. You know how things work; that’s your specialism.
