Happy New Year! The astrology of 2025 begins where the astrology of 2024 ends, except that this year, there is no clear ending or beginning as we hit January. The big celestial stories that began in late 2024 are holding over as 2025 begins. After a tumultuous 2024 – where everything changed big time, as I predicted a year ago – what can we expect from the astrology of 2025? The signs are that we are in for a rollercoaster ride, so hang on to your hat. The astrology of 2025 may do more than rearrange your hair.

One thing: I don’t know about you , but I found 2024 absolutely exhausting. That’s why this post is later than I intended it to be, as I took December away from my desk. I suspect I’m not the only person feeling sucker-punched by the universe – and I think I know who is to blame. Mars retrograde and the Mars – Pluto opposition, I’m looking at you. They are just two of the hangovers that followed the New Year celebrations – and they are not yet finished with us. So, what better moment (belatedly) to jump in and see what the astrology of 2025 has in store.

The Astrology of 2025: Overview

If you’re used to the ‘Big Horoscope’ format of previous years, this year is different. With Pluto in Aquarius, everything has changed including the structure of my annual forecast. What I’m going to do, is set out the big shifts in the skies and the themes that are going to dominate each month. If major aspects or planetary shifts hit your natal chart planets and points, those themes will have personal resonance for you – and they may do so anyway, because all planetary movements land in your natal chart somewhere. Otherwise, you will notice this year’s themes reflected in world events, wherever you live.

The Astrology of 2025: January

January’s astrology carries over the major themes that developed last year. The outer planet ‘Mini Triangle’, a powerful minor trine connecting Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will be in orb for the next four years. This outer planet aspect pattern brings in a ‘new age’, and it occurs only two or three times in a century. As this is going to be a constant presence during the year, I won’t list it in the monthly events detailed below – but keep the new ‘zeitgeist’ in mind as you read this post.

In January 2025, the major astrological influences are:

  • Mars retrograde in Leo and Cancer (until February 24th).
  • Mars opposite Pluto becomes exact during the first week of January.
  • Mars retrograde re-enters Cancer on January 7th.
  • Mars triggers the ‘mini triangle’ this month, making exact aspects to all of the outer planets.
  • The Full Moon in Cancer (January 13th) is conjunction Mars retrograde in Cancer.
  • New Moon in Aquarius (January 29th) is part of a wide stellium with Mercury and Pluto.
  • Jupiter retrograde in Gemini until February 4th.

The message is clear: the new world order starts now. Expect all of the changes that have been heading our way to become real – and fast. We can expect political changes, cultural changes, scientific and technological changes, rapid impacts on lifestyles and ways of living, working and being. The starting pistol is fired this month. Welcome to the new age. Whether you like it or not, you are going to have to get your head around it – and there will be a lot to take in. Expect a rapid turnover of events and big announcements. It’s a bold, brazen, tense, argumentative and (potentially) transformational month. You have been warned.

The Astrology of 2025: February

The astrology of February 2025 really gets things moving. All the retrograde planets turn direct, and by the end of the month, all the planets are moving forwards. It is as if the decks have been cleared – and that’s an important moment, as we have been through an extensive retrograde period during 2024. Enjoy the moment because February is just a breathing space; Venus and Mars are already in their shadow periods and will turn retrograde in March. And watch for the radical nature of change to be revealed this month.

The big astrological stories contained within the astrology of 2025 for February are:

  • Jupiter in Gemini turns direct on February 4th.
  • Mars Retrograde in Cancer trines Saturn during the second week of February.
  • Mars in Cancer turns direct on February 24th.
  • Full Moon in Leo (12th February) squares Uranus – and contacts the ‘Mini Triangle’.
  • New Moon in Pisces (28th February) aspects Jupiter and Mars.

This month’s theme is an active one: all systems go – though be prepared for some frustration if your fire is not well directed. Energy needs to be applied in a consistent manner to obtain the best result. This month’s focus is on making progress with long term structural changes – and that may be a positive thing – but it may be easy for arguments or violence to get real or escalate, especially where emotionally based issues are concerned. Watch for major debates and big exchanges of words. It’s a tense month, especially around the time of the full moon. Radical moves create shock waves. It’s a month of dramatic highs and lows.

The Astrology of 2025: March

The astrology of 2025 gets even more interesting this month. No-one ever said that 2025 was going to be easy, and the astrology of March 2025 tells us why. It’s a month of significance, with the first eclipse season of the year and the first major planetary shift of the year – Neptune’s first ingress into Aries. When an outer planet changes signs, it heralds a new beginning, especially when that sign is Aries – and Aries is a big influence this month. So, what else – in astrological terms – accompanies this change of scene in March 2025?

  • Venus turns retrograde in Aries (March 2nd).
  • Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo (14th March) opposite Saturn in Pisces.
  • Mercury turns retrograde in Aries (March 15th).
  • Venus retrograde conjunction Mercury retrograde during March.
  • Solar Eclipse in Aries (29th March).
  • Neptune ingress into Aries (31st March).
  • Saturn sextile Uranus; effective March – May 2025.

This month’s themes include: tradition and innovation go hand in hand; old and young work together; necessity is the mother of invention; making radical new situations work for you. All of that has positive potential, but there is likely to be stubborn resistance to all things new. That’s the background noise for the next few months, but March has its own specifics: the Venus and Mercury retrogrades in Aries – in tandem – are concerned with articulating values, and re-examining value systems. In Aries, new values may contest old ones – and the argument may be less pretty than Venus suggests. And new will win. That’s where we are.

This month, diplomacy, communications, money, finances, economics and women’s issues are in the frame. Any of those matters are likely to trigger (Aries) vigorous debate and/or a potential breakdown in relationships; misinformation and disinformation will play their part. At the end of the month, Mercury and Venus align with Neptune as it changes signs. There is a risk of being intentionally blind to the consequences of reckless behaviour and lies. You (and we collectively) may wake up to find that some things were not a good idea. Overlooking – and overlooked – detail will be an issue at the end of this month.

The Astrology of 2025: April

Neptune’s ingress into Aries is a wake up call. Being jolted out of your dreams is not pleasant, but that’s what’s coming to us all. Neptune in Pisces showed us how dangerous Neptune can be. Now in Aries, is there a risk of deception and illusion causing conflict? Yes there is. The association of Neptune in Aries with the American Civil War (1861-1865) is well known, but the main take from this placement is that Neptune knows no boundaries. It spreads like wildfire – and spreading like wildfire is a perfect description of Neptune in this sign. It’s going to be hard to extinguish whatever takes hold.

On that note, the astrology of April 2025 is as follows:

  • Saturn sextile Uranus becomes exact.
  • Mercury in Aries goes direct on April 8th.
  • Venus in Aries goes direct on April 13th.
  • Mars re-enters Leo on April 19th.
  • Mars opposite Pluto exact during last week of April.
  • Full Moon in Libra (April 13th) square Mars in Cancer.
  • New Moon in Taurus (April 27th) square Mars – Pluto opposition in fixed signs.

My eye was drawn to the final item on that list. This month, expect the dominant themes to include direct speech, assertive or aggressive communications – particularly in connection with money, values, ownership – and staking a claim. Going after things you want is a big issue this month, and so is saying what you want. Negotiation and cooperation go nowhere. Of course, those themes will apply in a global, as well as a personal sense, and they will resonate through the big news stories this month. We can expect to see a lot of dramatic, performative, ego-driven action.

Take cover at the end of the month: this is an intransigent New Moon and it presages an explosive new beginning. I’ll be blunt: it has disaster and tragedy written all over, and don’t forget that new moons often trigger difficult and traumatic events. This could be a pivotal moment in the astrology of 2025 that changes the shape of life as we know it – and that, of course, is what all of those seismic shifts indicated by the outer planet ‘mini triangle’ are concerned with. This month will remind us that when things are gone, they are gone for good.

The Astrology of 2025: May

After an explosive April, what can we expect in May? Saturn moves into Aries and, once more, that signals the reality of a new beginning because Saturn brings structure and form. We can see what the new world order is going to look like. Things take shape. But, before that moment arrives, we need to take a moment to evaluate where we are – and where we are is at the beginning of a new world order that will be very different from the world we are used to – and the astrological influences for May 2025 suggest how that’s going to play out:

  • Venus in Aries trines Mars in Leo.
  • Saturn ingress into Aries (May 26th).
  • Saturn in Aries approaching conjunction with Neptune in Aries from May 26th.
  • Full Moon in Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus (May 12th).
  • New Moon in Gemini trine Pluto in Aquarius (May 27th).

This month’s themes include: feeling confident makes it easy to ‘go for it’ (in all senses of that term); the boss gets what he wants; assertive demands for attention; easily aroused ( again, in all senses of that term). Relationships and agreements are volatile and easily broken. Those themes dominate most of the month, but towards the end of May, Saturn enters Aries and that new beginning becomes real. The process of change takes a major step forwards around the time of the New Moon – nothing gets in the way of that. And as Saturn conjuncts Neptune, issues like control, domination and limitation become widespread.

The Astrology of 2024: June

As we reach the midpoint of the year, we need to talk about Saturn and Neptune. In conjunction they represent erosion (Neptune) of structures (Saturn); invasion (Neptune) of borders; dissolving (Neptune) boundaries (Saturn), abandonment (Neptune) of controls (Saturn). I’m sure you get the picture. That dynamic – in whatever form it manifests – is going to permeate (Neptune) the reality (Saturn) of all our lives. And – of course – the ‘push back’ situation is equally likely; asserting control over situations that are out of control becomes an imperative. The astrological pointers for June 2025 are as follows:

  • Saturn conjunction Neptune in Aries – see above.
  • Jupiter ingress Cancer (June 10th).
  • Uranus transiting final degree of Taurus – the anaretic degree.
  • Jupiter square Saturn (June 15th).
  • Mars square Uranus (June 15th).
  • Jupiter square Neptune (June 19th).
  • Full Moon in Sagittarius (June 11th), trine aspect to Mars.
  • New Moon in Cancer (25th June), conjunction Jupiter in Cancer.

The themes for June 2025 are as follows: a fight for control vs a fight for lack of controls; uncertain leadership; undermining leadership; religious or ‘cult’ leadership; aggressive rule-breaking; long term uncertainty caused by conflict or volatility; expansion of nationalism; big dependency issues; big families; big emotional issues; increased sensitivity; increased security. To this list, you can add crisis situations, as Uranus in the last degree of Taurus, finally gets to blow apart all the old certainties and ways of being that we have become used to. It’s going to be a long summer…

The Astrology of 2025: Part One Summary

If you thought 2024 was one heck of a year, 2025 has just bowled up to say, “Hold my beer”. And this is the problem with moments of significant change – they don’t come easy. Right now, I feel as if anything is possible, including despotism, war, and all kinds of things you don’t usually think about as you enter a new year. Remember this: we are at the beginning of something new. And how it starts is not generally how it will end. The Astrology of 2025 (Part Two) will be along before you know it…
